It was a most unusual Hamilton climb this year. Because of the Covid pandemic we were spread out over four days in ITT format, each person battling their demons alone, through the ashes and charcoal of the fires that ravaged our mountain through the summer months. And at the top, no cheering crowd to congratulate you on your finish. Indeed the top was not even the top; there was no final sprint along the black and yellow wall up the ramp to the Observatory parking lot.

The bitter note on this Hillclimb was that a wild boar ran onto the road right in front of Brandon Smith of Team CVC on the first intermediate descent, taking him down. Brandon is recovering from an ugly case of road rash. We all wish him a speedy recovery!

And yet it was a good turnout, and an exciting competition. The magic continues!


Congratulations to Jamie Yang Pong for her sub-90 win in a time of 1:26:39 over arch rival Robin Betz of Alto Velo, also with a sub-90 result!

Congratulations to classy, bougie, ratchet Nico Sandi of Alto Velo who in a final hour ambush snatched the win from cat-3 John Janetzko in a blazing time of just 1:12:14! Amazing stuff! Congratulations Nico!

The real excitement this year was in the women's competition in a head-to-head battle between Jamie and Robin, and wildcard Alana O'Mara who threw in the occasional stellar win. In the end, Jamie took the Overall in a very narrow victory over Robin, separated by less than 2 points, and 3rd Place Sue Lin Holt! Congratulations 2020 Low-Key Champion Jamie Yang Pong!

Congratulations to a very consistent John Janetzko of Mike's Bikes Development who clearly dominated the Overall men's competition this year, winning every Hillclimb except El Sereno and Hamilton! Rising star Yassine Kabouzi of No team takes second place, and Bill Laddish of Team CVC rounds off the podium. Great job, guys!

Congrats to Alto Velo for top spot in Teams! Until Nico's appearance on Hamilton, Alto Velo was an all-woman team, and successfully fended off attacks by a very strong Team CVC.
